What is Organic Desiccated Coconut?
Like all Ranre Foods’ products, Organic Desiccated Coconut is made from fresh, matured Sri Lankan coconuts grown in the famous Coconut Triangle (situated between the towns of Kurunegala, Puttlam and Gampaha). As the first step, coconut meat is well-dried and then grated to one of the three grades offered: Medium, Fine, and Super Fine. Strict quality control implemented guarantees the pure white colour of the products and authentic sweet coconutty aroma and taste.
Although produced similarly, three grades of Ranre Foods’ Organic Desiccated Coconut have somewhat different uses. This allows you to create your culinary masterpieces with a precision of a Michelin-star chef. And the tastes of your super-dishes will make your family and friends return for more all the time.
The Medium grade has been created to add not only taste but also texture, sweet moisture and light crunchiness to your cooking, baking and desserts. It will add filling to your curries, sauces, fish or meat stews, and rice or other cooked grains dishes. It will bring marvellous freshness, subtle sweetness and tropical texture to fruit salads or mixed greens. Try mixing it with yoghurt, oatmeal or cereals for nutrition, fuller texture and a pleasant sweet twist in the taste.
You can mix Medium grade into your baking to add a subtle filling of texture while complementing its taste with mysterious tropical nuttiness and sweetness. Add this to your cookies, biscuits, chocolates, pudding, muffins, quick bread, and other desserts to feel that complementing sweet moisture.
You can also combine this grade with breadcrumbs when coating meat, fish, poultry, prawns or tofu before baking and even for medium to low heat frying.
In Asian recipes, this is the grade to be used for sambals and mallungs. These are two types of Asian salads made with a coconut base and various additional greens and spices. They can be freshly crushed or lightly cooked to bring out their amazing tropical flavours and goodness.
And finally sprinkle the Medium grade of raw Organic Desiccated Coconut as a topping on your oatmeal, cereals, cooked grains, salads, thick sauces, baked goods and desserts. Or you can add honey or a trickle to it and enjoy it as a separate dessert.
The Fine grade is meant to mix into your dishes and work more by supplementing the main recipe. It will increase the texture of the dish and bring the coconutty notes into their taste and aroma, depending on the amount used.
You can use this grade to increase fullness, thickness and texture in your soups, sauces, curries, vegetable, fish and meat stews, and other savoury dishes.
If added to the dough, it will bring the natural sweetness and moisture to the cookies, biscuits, muffins and quick bread and other baked goods and desserts, but without being so obvious as the Medium grade. It is also more suited for a sweet filling in your desserts as the main base or as a supplementary element, like in macaroons. Similarly, it can be used as a base or as a supplement in the spicy or savoury fillings in pastries. Its smaller particles will make a finer bond with other elements in your recipe.
Add this to the breadcrumbs and breading mixes to coat vegetables, meat, fish, poultry, prawns, or tofu before baking or frying them. The final dish will be more evenly covered while having additional tropical notes in its taste.
It also may be more suitable for smoothies, dips, and yoghurts, where a smoother texture is preferred.
The Super Fine grade will blend into your recipes and will focus on adding flavour but remain virtually undetected otherwise. If you want to add sweetness, coconut flavour or hints of nuttiness to your recipes without altering their overall appearance, feel and texture, then this is the grade to go for.
Very small particles of the coconut in this grade blend well into soups, sauces, stews, and curries, making them fuller and richer. It will also add nutrition to your porridge, drinks, and smoothies and will make your dips thicker and more flavourful.

Is there any nutritional value in the Organic Desiccated Coconut?

If you have to leave a part of the Organic Desiccated Coconut for later use, we recommend you transfer it to an air-tight glass or porcelain container. Use the remainder within 5 to 6 days after the original date of opening, if not refrigerated. Otherwise, you can extend the use up to a few months.
